IMPORTANCE OF DEVELOPMENTAL STRATEGIES TO INCREASE FEMALE COACHES IN SPORTS

Today , there are more males coaching female teams than females . With the percentage of female coaches being much smaller than male coaches , it ’ s important to realize that change needs to happen . The need for more female coaches needs to be addressed and a plan of action needs to be put in place to increase the number of female coaches . Though there are many compelling reasons for adding to the ranks of female coaches , two of the most important are that female coaches can be role models for female athletes , and having females coaching females can help provide a pathway for other females in sports .
Female coaches provide a role model for current female athletes . “ One hundred percent of male athletes have had a male coaching role model during their athletic careers , to their benefit ; young women likewise need and deserve more same-sex role models ” ( Haigh ). These same-sex role models can help with the development of females as they grow up . Now females should be put into these roles where they can teach or coach other athletes and make a difference in their lives .
Males have this opportunity to be a positive example to male athletes , so females should be given that same opportunity to be a positive example to
