Dear Colleagues,
As the leaves turn and the crisp air signals the arrival of fall, I find myself reflecting on the tremendous effort and dedication our literacy community shows every day. Each of you—educators, librarians, community leaders, and advocates—has contributed to the vibrant tapestry of literacy efforts that enrich lives across our state. This season, we have much to celebrate.
Literacy is more than the foundation of education; it is the key to opportunity, empowerment, and connection. In classrooms, libraries, and community centers, we see firsthand how literacy transforms lives. From the teacher who introduces a child to their new favorite book series to the literacy leaders who work tirelessly every day to meet the needs of every child, our community is full of individuals who remind us why we do this work and inspire us to continue reaching for new heights.
This fall, let’s shine a spotlight on the creativity and dedication that define literacy education. Educators are integrating technology in innovative ways, introducing students to digital storytelling and adaptive learning tools. Communities are coming together to host book festivals, reading challenges, and literacy nights that ignite a love of reading in people of all ages. And organizations like MLA are driving progress by championing literacy as a right for everyone.
I encourage each of you to take time this season to celebrate the wins, big and small, in your classrooms, schools, and communities. Share your success stories, collaborate with your peers, and join us in showcasing the power of literacy. By recognizing the impact of our collective efforts, we can build momentum for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
As we honor the achievements of this past year, let us also look forward to what’s possible. Together, we are shaping the future of literacy education—one word, one book, and one learner at a time.
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to literacy and learning. I look forward to celebrating your accomplishments at our upcoming events and hearing your stories of innovation and impact.
With gratitude and admiration,
Sarah Valter
