Welcome to the winter and soon-to-be spring of 2022 ! All in all , we had a pretty active and productive year in 2021 . Despite some of the pandemic challenges and late start , many goals were still met . As we ramp up for the upcoming operational season , I know you will continue to maintain a steady course and navigate any new hurdles that will confront our organization . As an Auxiliarist , we need to continue being flexible and prepare for any changes as we have proven over the last 2 years . Adapt , overcome , and maintain your situational awareness !
This is the time of year to prepare and train for the upcoming boating season . I always talk about goals with the leadership . Goals need to be realistic , achievable , and measurable . Take advantage of the online courses in AUX LMS or Moodle , maintain or increase your qualifications , and certainly update your CORE courses as needed . You might even consider venturing into something new ! Take advantage of some or all of the AUXOP courses while you don ’ t need a proctor ! There are leadership courses available starting at the member level and above . Taking one of these courses gives you an opportunity to learn more about the “ nuts and bolts ” details of the Auxiliary leadership . Check with your Flotilla Commander or Member Training Officer for any guidance or help with any of these courses .
Spring D-Train as you know will be held virtually . While we will miss the in-person fellowship , we need to do what is best in keeping everyone safe . Take advantage of any training opportunities on or before the event . There will be more info posted in a future District communication about the specifics on the weekend of March 11 th and 12 th .
As an optimist , I know that spring is right around the corner ! Now is the best time to get prepared for the operational season , and it will be upon us very quickly . While we are still dealing with many unknown issues , I know this organization of great volunteers will be ready for any concerns thrown in front of them . Our mission hasn ’ t changed , and we will provide the best possible practice and service to our boating public , the Coast Guard , and Auxiliary !
Thank you for everything you do in the Auxiliary ! Your hard work continues to provide the goal-setting results that we have seen over the last year of challenges ! As we navigate into 2022 , let ’ s continue to do what we do best . Best wishes to everyone , stay positive , and please remain safe in your activities .
Respectfully , Doug
