Sea Scout / Auxiliary Program

One of the things I hear all the time is “ why should the Auxiliary help the Sea Scouts ”. The reason is simple , they are the future mariners in the United States . The Sea Scouts were founded in 1912 and have had female members since 1959 . The members are between the ages of 14 and 21 . This means that most of the Sea Scouts already have three years of scouting under their belts .
They are normally some of the best the scouts have to offer . Mature , understanding leadership and have a “ can do ” attitude .
What they need from the Auxiliary is our boating , training and organizational experience . The Auxiliary is the official sponsors of the Sea Scouts . This puts us in a unique position to help them and in turn they can help us .
The Auxiliary is not requesting units to charter a Sea Scout Ship . We would like flotillas to mentor scout ships . Do not get me wrong I am very proud of the three Sea Scout Ships chartered by two flotillas and one division in 5NR .
It should be remembered that a Sea Scout can join the Auxiliary at age 14 . I do not know one flotilla that could not use more members . Over the next several months members of my staff will be contacting flotillas near Sea Scout Ship to share contact information . I hope flotillas use this information to help the scouts and ourselves .
