What is your current position ? U . S . District Judge
What is your hometown , college attended , and law school attended ? Devils Lake , N . D ., University of North Dakota ( UND ), and UND School of Law
What professional work did you do before law school ? Disc Jockey at KKXL , XL-93 , and KJ-108 in Grand Forks and KDLR , KDVL-FM in Devils Lake
What led you to a career in law ? My father encouraged me to become a lawyer . It is our family business , and the job is more stable than being a disc jockey .
How long have you been on the SBAND Board ? I was appointed State Bar Delegate in September of 2014 and have served in that position ( and on the SBAND Board of Governors ) since .
What other involvement have you had with SBAND prior to being on the board ? I was on the Editorial Board of The Gavel for a time . I also served as a member and chair of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court from 2010 to 2015 .
What is your favorite quote ? “ The judgment is affirmed .” – Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals
What is the last book you read ( good or bad )? “ The Farmer ’ s Lawyer ” by Sarah Vogel . It is a good read and an important one for North Dakota lawyers .
