YOUNG LAWYER SHOWCASE

The Young Lawyers Section ( YLS ) of the State Bar Association of North Dakota ( SBAND ) is hosting bimonthly happy hours across North Dakota for great social networking opportunities . YLS is also continuing to host webinars featuring various legal topics . Young lawyers , as well as other licensed attorneys , are encouraged to participate in these educational opportunities to earn continuing legal education credits .
YLS is currently looking for individuals interested in participating in our community service committee . The community service committee is responsible for organizing and implementing the annual spring food drive , which occurs in the spring .

ROBIN JOHANSEN
Robin Johansen is a staff attorney for the Northeast Central Judicial District in Grand Forks where she assists the district court judges in all areas of the law .
Johansen serves as officer at large for the Greater Grand Forks County Bar Association and is a member of the Cass County Bar Association . Prior to her current position , she was an assistant state ’ s attorney with the Grand Forks County State ’ s Attorney ’ s Office .
Johansen was born in Fargo and graduated from Larimore High School . She earned her bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from North Dakota State University in 2013 and her juris doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2019 . Johansen is licensed to practice law in North Dakota and Minnesota . While in law school , Johansen was the vice president of the Student Bar Association , secretary of the International Human Rights Organization , and co-chair for the Graduation Banquet Committee . She also participated in the National Native American Law Students Association moot court competition in Tucson , Ariz .
After completing her juris doctor , Johansen was a law clerk for the South Central Judicial District in Mandan . There , she discovered her passion for working with the district court , encouraging her to apply for her current position .
Johansen currently resides in Fargo with her husband , Nick , and their dog and cat , Sadie and Eddie . She enjoys spending time with friends and family , going to the lake , baking , and scuba diving .
EMILY JO ROARK
Emily Jo Roark currently serves as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Daniel L . Hovland at the United States District Court in Bismarck . Roark will start as a deputy county attorney at the Yellowstone County Attorney ’ s Office in Billings , Mont ., in March 2022 .
Roark grew up in Berthold . She graduated summa cum laude from Minot State University with a degree in finance and criminal justice . Roark earned her juris doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2020 . She is licensed to practice in North Dakota and seeking licensure in Montana .
During law school , Roark was involved in moot court , trial team , the Criminal Law Association , and Law Women ’ s Caucus . She earned several awards for her oral advocacy skills and was selected to the Order of the Barristers . Roark interned at the Cass County State ’ s Attorney Office and had the opportunity to appear in court and argue cases in front of the North Dakota Supreme Court .
Roark is member of SBAND , the Big Muddy Bar Association , Judge Bruce M . Van Sickle American Inns of Court , and the Eighth Circuit Bar Association . Roark was recently elected to serve as the presidentelect of SBAND ’ s Young Lawyers Section and to the communications committee for the Eighth Circuit Bar Association . Roark currently resides in Billings , Mont . In her spare time , she enjoys reading , traveling , golfing , cooking , and spending time with family and friends .
