Rob Manly SBAND Board Member
What is your current position ? I am the president of Vogel Law Firm , and practice in the areas of estate litigation and personal injury .
What is your hometown , college attended , and law school attended ? I ’ m a proud New Rockford Rocket , attended college at Dartmouth College , and law school at the University of North Dakota .
What professional work did you do before law school ? I went straight from college to law school , with various seasonal and part-time , non-professional jobs along the way .
What led you to a career in law ? My father was a huge influence in my career choice , with my dad and grandfather ( and great-grandfather ) all serving New Rockford as attorneys . They repeatedly cautioned me the legal profession was competitive , but our state always had room for more good attorneys . I wanted to follow their path , while also carving my own .
How long have you been on the SBAND Board ? I was appointed to the board in 2020 , and serve as secretary-treasurer .
What other involvement have you had with SBAND prior to being on the board ? I ’ ve been an SBAND appointee to the North Dakota Legal Services board for more than 20 years , and also serve as a mentor in SBAND ’ s Lawyers Assistance Program .
What is your favorite quote ? I do like Churchill ’ s quote : “ Democracy is the worst form of government , except for all those other forms .”
What is the last book you read ( good or bad )? I should list something impressive , but the truth is the last book I read was “ Van Halen Rising ” about the early days of one of my favorite bands ( and it was good !).
