Traditional materials in the kitchen have a modern accent. The island is dark wood with a marble top, seen also in the backsplash. Herringboned subway tiles add to the cafe style as do the pendant globe lights.“ We wanted the hit of black and gold in the light fixtures.” The minimalist fireplace is a reserved presence. An upholstered chair enunciates patterns seen in the home while the island’ s chairs add a soft geometric pattern.
The dining room is a study in serene beauty.“ An unconventional fabric pattern,” the designers note,“ keeps things fresh and unexpected.” Bookended by two chairs upholstered in a‘ malachite’ pattern, the table’ s long sentence of dark wood is bracketed by a sumptuous plush bench and seating. The room’ s vocabulary includes the handsome drapes and throw. Vases mimic the chandelier’ s globes. The console adds geometrics as does the artwork.
The ceiling is accentuated with applied moldings, painted white, complemented by the linens’ geometrics. The headboard’ s grid pattern is repeated in the bed’ s throw and benches. Ovals, on the side tables and lamps, as well as the dressing table, repeat the chandelier’ s curves.“ Polished chrome is the neutral metal.” The marine blue accent pillows and upholstered chair quietly state luxury. The space is enhanced by the quiet grace of the curtains.
The designers comment“ If your friends and neighbors copy your design ideas, make them wonder where you found everything, rather than walking into your favorite design store and seeing your living room in the front window.”
