Sherlock Holmes lowered him down a rope.“ Can you climb up?” shouted Holmes.“ I’ ll be out before you know it!” came Watson’ s reply. But the climb wasn’ t as easy as Watson had first imagined. Each hour he managed to climb 3ft – but slipped back 2ft. How long did it take Watson to get out?

Dr Watson wound up two old pocket watches that he had found lying in a box beneath his bed. One of the watches was running two minutes per hour too slow, while the other was running one minute per hour too fast. Watson left the two watches sitting on his dressing table. When Watson next checked on the watches he found that the one which was running fast was exactly one hour ahead of the other. How long had it been since Watson had originally wound up the watches?
Five criminals had just finished sharing out the proceeds from a robbery when Sherlock Holmes caught up with them. BROWN had twice as much as ADAMS, but only half as much as DOBSON. CLARKE had three times that of ADAMS, while EDWARDS had the remaining `400. In all `1150 had been stolen during the robbery. How much did each of the robbers get?
