Compiled by Sam Soyer and Kerry Belgrave. Sam, a former Fullbright Scholar, has been a teacher of
English Language and Literature for over 25 years. He has taught at the University of the West Indies
Cave Hill Campus as part-time tutor and Lecturer of Literatures in English. He has been a tutor at Erdiston
Teacher Training College from 2005 and is a member the Barbados Association of Reading, the Language
Arts Review Committee, the Oral Language Curriculum and the Language Committee for the National
Diploma of Secondary Education. He has also published several English texts for secondary and primary
Education under publishers Heinemann and Pearson Education Limited and currently reviews Caribbean
fiction for Heinneman.
Kerry is a linguist, researcher, teacher and poet. Having taught at the secondary and tertiary levels of the
Barbados education system, he is currently tutor of English Language and Literature at the Erdiston
Teachers’ Training College, Barbados. He holds a BA in Linguistics with Education (Hons, U.W.I) and is the
first West Indian to receive the MA in Language Communication Research from Cardiff University in Wales,
UK. Blurring the lines between art and science, Mr Belgrave’s dissertation probed the association between
adult impulsivity and the comprehension accuracy of decomposable English idioms among Russian and
Kazakh ELL’s.
