Retell story from Leilah’s/mother’s
perspective. Whichever of the two you
choose, be sure to involve Calli and the
other character in your retelling.
Examine effects of all these elements:
Point of View
1. perhaps makes us most sympathet
ic to Calli
2. helps us recognize Calli’s awareness
of the mother’s situation is greater
than Leilah’s
(Plot/) Structure:
not well developed flashbacks but
brief reminiscences between
sections of dialogue
First person / interior monologue
with brief reminiscences (not well
developed flashbacks) that give
crucial information without which
we could not make real sense of the
story are punctuated with sections
of dialogue
EXERCISE
