August 2, 2019: Thousands of boys and girls turned out to meet and play with Jazz players during the Junior Jazz summer road trip. Royce O’Neale, Bryon Russell, Jarrell Brantley, and Justin Wright-Foreman took turns covering thousands of miles in dozens of cities across a handful of western states from June to mid-August. August 12, 2019: LHM Hyundai Peoria was named a “Best Dealership to Work For” by Automotive News. August 15, 2019: The Salt Lake City Stars announced it would host its annual local player tryouts on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019. August 23: Amanda Covington, newly appointed executive vice president for communications and government aff airs, has also been appointed to the board of trustees at Weber State University by Utah Governor Gary Herbert. ARTICLES VIDEO PHOTOS August 23: Tumua Tavana, director of service and corporate partnerships with the Utah Jazz, was recently profiled by KSL News in Salt Lake City. Tumua was a goalie for the women’s water polo team in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Her team won the first Olympic gold medal for U.S. women’s water polo. Miller Dealerships, has been named president-elect to the board of directors of Girls on the Run in Utah, a nonprofit that inspires girls in 3rd–8th grades to develop confidence and improve health using a program that integrates running into the curriculum. LHM Winning Spirit September/October 2019 August 26, 2019: Salt Lake Bees slugger Jared Walsh, 26, has been named to the 2019 All-PCL Team as designated hitter. Walsh becomes the first Salt Lake player to be named to the All-PCL team since Brennan Boesch in 2014. August 28, 2019: The Utah Jazz unveiled the team’s Classic Edition uniforms for the 2019–20 season, which revive the purple mountain theme. The team will wear the uniforms at 11 select home and away games this season. September 3, 2019: The University of Utah named one of its on-campus housing buildings after Gail Miller. The Gail Miller Community Engagement Tower will house recipients of the Larry H. and Gail Miller Enrichment Scholarship, as well as other university students. September 5, 2019: The Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake to assist with renovations at two sites. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the Murray location, and the facility was renamed the Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Club. September 6, 2019: An open house was held for the opening of the Gail Miller Resource Center, one of three new facilities overseen by Shelter the Homeless. The Gail Miller Resource Center will serve homeless men and women in the Salt Lake area, providing shelter and coordinated on-site resources. September 14, 2019: Female members of the Utah Jazz front-off ice and broadcast team, along with Jazz guard Danté Exum, appeared at the Jazz Youth All-Girls Clinic presented by Adidas. Girls ages 7–17 developed their skills, met positive female role models, and interacted with Jazz representatives. September 21, 2019: Vivint Smart Home Arena hosted a National Hockey League preseason game between the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks in the Salt Lake Shootout presented by the Utah Sports Commission.
