1. UTAH From the Archives Spirit of Giving October 1995 The Miller family and LHM Group have always given back to the communities that sustain us, but as our organization grew, so did the number of donation requests. October 1995 marked the formal organization of LHM Charities, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that could help handle these increased requests. Two years later, in May of 1997, LHM Charities announced a new program that would allow employees to participate in charitable giving: the Give Us 5 Program. This initiative was born with the understanding that working together, employee charitable contributions could have a much greater impact than individual donations alone. For just a few dollars a month, employees could now be part of something that made a significant difference in the community. LHM Charities receives funding from several sources: companies in the LHM Group, fundraising events, and donations from private individuals, which is where employee contributions play a vital role. In recent years, Gail Miller has begun matching employee donations. The Give Us 5 Program is unique in that it ensures donations from employees go back into the communities where the donations originated. This allows smaller, local charitable groups to get help that can make a big difference. Since 1997, donations from the Give Us 5 program have done a lot of good, all stemming from LHM employees being willing to donate a small monthly amount, generally $5 from their paychecks. It’s a remarkable effort, and one that hopefully will continue to enrich lives for decades to come. ◆ FIVE Left: A Previous Give Us Five logo Right: Current Give Us Five logo 2. 4.
