July 18 , 2017 : The Utah Jazz announced that Jazz guard Ricky Rubio would be traveling to China for NBA 5v5 , the league ’ s elite grassroots five-on-five tournament . Rubio was at the Shenzhen Sports Center July 22 – 23 , where he interacted with fans and instructed participating teams .
July 25 , 2017 : The Utah Jazz announced Tony Bradley and Ekpe Udoh would host the second and third weeks of the 2017 summer annual Junior Jazz road trip . The final two weeks started on July 31 and took place in 25 cities in Utah and Nevada .
August 5 , 2017 : Utah Jazz guard / forward Thabo Sefolosha participated in the NBA Africa Game 2017 . The league ’ s second game in Africa once again featured a Team Africa vs . Team World format and was played at the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg , South Africa . Sefolosha was captain of Team Africa .
August 13 – 16 , 2017 : Utah Jazz assistant coach Johnnie Bryant served as a coach during the NBA ’ s 16th edition of Basketball Without Borders ( BWB ) Europe , which was held for the first time in Israel . Bryant joined various NBA , WNBA , and FIBA players , legends , and coaches in conducting camps for the top 62 boys and girls ages 17 and under from 22 countries .
August 16 , 2017 : The Salt Lake Bees appointed Marc Amicone as the team ’ s president in addition to his role as general manager . In the 13 seasons under Amicone ’ s direction as general manager , the Bees surpassed six million fans in total attendance at Smith ’ s Ballpark .
August 17 , 2017 : The Utah Jazz joined University of Utah Health , the official health care partner of LHM Sports & Entertainment and the Jazz , for the ninth annual Be Well Utah — A Family Health Week from Aug . 19 – 26 . Jazz guard Alec Burks attended the Farmington Family Night at the Farmington Health Center on August 21 . On August 26 , the America First Jazz Dancers and Jazz forwards Joel Bolomboy and Royce O ’ Neale attended the Family Health Fair at the University of Utah .
August 22 , 2017 : Jonathan Rinehart , a 12-year veteran of the Utah Jazz staff and vice president of communications , was named team president of the Salt Lake City Stars . Rinehart began his new position on September 1 . Rinehart will continue as executive director and primary organizer of the annual Utah Jazz Summer League . Formerly general manager of the Stars , Bart Sharp was appointed senior vice president of marketing for the Utah Jazz . Bart Taylor will continue as vice president of basketball operations for the Stars .
August 23 , 2017 : The Salt Lake City Stars announced Martin Schiller was named the team ’ s head coach . Schiller is the second coach for the Stars , the 11th in the organization ’ s history , and the fifth internationally-born head coach in G League history .
August 24 , 2017 : Prestige Financial Services completed its 16th rated term securitization , issuing $ 335,223,000 in securities backed by $ 358,533,598 in automobile installment receivables . In a transaction led jointly by J . P . Morgan Securities and Wells Fargo Securities , notes were purchased by qualified institutional buyers in a private offering pursuant to Rule 144A of the Securities Act .
August 24 , 2017 : LHM Sports & Entertainment announced that downtown Salt Lake City and Vivint Smart Home Arena would have a new iconic landmark when the home of the Utah Jazz reopens after its $ 125 million renovation . A 14-foot high and 21-foot wide illuminated Jazz note statue will be located on the plaza to welcome fans .
August 28 , 2017 : The Salt Lake City Stars finalized their coaching staff for the 2017-18 season . Bryan Bailey and Nathan Peavy joined new head coach Martin Schiller on the bench . Bailey and Peavy both played for Schiller with the Bundesliga ’ s Artland Dragons .
