Giving Back is the Name of the Game

The Salt Lake Bees finished the 2022 season with a weekend giving back to the community . On Friday , Sept . 23 , the team hosted its 2nd annual Go Gold Night to strike out childhood cancer . The Bees partnered with Utah ’ s Huntsman Cancer Institute to raise money for childhood cancer research by selling t-shirts , gameworn specialty jerseys , and signed bases , balls , helmets , and bats .
Throughout the night , the promotional staff worked to recognize and celebrate children and families in the community who are currently battling cancer and the doctors who dedicate their lives to helping them fight . This year ’ s Go Gold Night was especially important to the Bees Staff as they honored and remembered a member of the Bees family , Marshall Brown , who passed away earlier in the year after a battle against Rhabdomyosarcoma . Before the game , a new bench was placed on the berm behind the right field in memory of Marshall , dedicated to all children and families battling cancer .
After a night of fundraising , Bees President , Marc Amicone , was able to present Huntsman Cancer Institute Representatives with a donation of $ 35,000 for childhood cancer research . And the night concluded with a fireworks show , Marshall ’ s favorite part of Bees Baseball .
On Saturday , Sept . 24 , Bees players Janson Junk , Torii Hunter Jr ., Jake Gatewood , Ryan Smith and Kyle Kasser along with Bumble visited Utah Miracle League to play adaptive baseball with the six team league . Miracle League is designed to remove the barriers that keep children with mental and physical disabilities from being able to play . The Bees players served as “ buddies ” helping the players hit , pitch and throw and also signed autographs and posed for pictures on the last day of the season .
Thanks to donations from the Salt Lake Bees , the Larry H . & Gail Miller Family Foundation , Utah Honda Dealers , and Bees fans at the game , Go Gold Night raised $ 35,000 for cancer research at Huntsman Cancer Institute .
Post-game , Tichas , who is currently battling leukemia , drove the bases for a home run and was embraced by the entire Bees team at home plate .
