The children served by Spokane H.O.P.E. were overjoyed to receive a donation. IDAHO WASHINGTON Your Give Us Five Dollars at Work A Glance at LHM Charities at Work in Idaho and Washington The Larry H. Miller (LHM) Group of Companies focuses on enriching lives, and LHM Charities helps us achieve this mission by supporting nonprofits that assist women and children. Funding stays in the state where it is contributed and is directed toward programs that address the issues of health and education. Employees in Idaho are supporting Life’s Kitchen, a nonprofit social enterprise that provides food service training to at-risk youth (ages 16–20) while producing meals for community members in need. About 40 percent of the youth who participate are high school dropouts living in poverty, and 50 percent are referrals from the juvenile justice system. Many experience significant challenges such as mental illness, addiction, or abuse. Life’s Kitchen operates three businesses that provide essential job training. Youth also attend life skills and employability classes each week to help them learn how to navigate the workplace, manage money, and succeed at becoming productive adults. Funding was also provided to Treasure Valley Children’s Theater to provide live theater performances to Title I schools in the Boise, Idaho, area. Through a donation from LHM Charities to Spokane HOPE School, LHM employees are helping children who have hearing loss. The school focuses on helping these children become confident, independent, and able to speak. A portion of the grant is enabling parents of toddlers and preschool children to remotely access class sessions as they occur. This allows parents to learn proper techniques that can be modeled at home, which increases positive outcomes. You can enrich lives in your local community by making monthly contributions to Larry H. Miller Charities through the Give Us 5 payroll deduction program. Any amount is welcome, and Gail Miller supports these efforts by matching employee donations dollar-per-dollar. Contact your payroll or human resources administrator to learn how you can sign up. For more information about Larry H. Miller Charities and the impact it is making in your community, contact one of the committee members in your area. ◆ LHM Charities Subcommittees IDAHO Jennifer Friedrich, Chair..........HOB Kim Fox.............................................HOB Penny Ivancic..............................BUC Nancy Olson.................................BSU Tess Schultz..................................BCD WASHINGTON Courtney Hartman, Chair.......
