WINNING SPIRIT WINNING SPIRIT May/June 2018 May/June 2018 WINNING SPIRIT WINNING SPIRIT May/June 2018 May/June 2018 LHM Day of Service: Colorado/New Mexico Edition Going About Doing Good COLORADO The annual LHM Day of Service is one that employees throughout the company look forward to each year—not only as a chance to help others but also as a way of sharing our company culture with the world. In Colorado and New Mexico, employees worked in parks, volunteered in a Children’s Hospital, and labored with Habitat for Humanity. In all, the experience was extremely positive for everyone involved, and some of your co-workers—and some of the people we’ve helped— have shared their feelings below. ◆ “I was born & raised in the Barelas (my heart is still there) and am so grateful to you and the Larry H. Miller Corp. for all that you did to beautify Joseph J. Baca plaza. I was in awe as I passed by it over the weekend.“ Liz Otero, AMT customer, Albuquerque resident Our employees were excited to get to our project and even more excited when we finished. This was a very rewarding project for them and with the diversity of work involved they all felt they contributed in a big way. They were grateful to hear how the work impacted the organization which has had them talking all day and fed to the employees who did not volunteer. “ LVW, Jeffco Action Center Darlene Garcia, LIT 4 Dealership Awards 6 LHM Day of Service 2018 12 Society of Excellence 4 Dealership Awards 6 LHM Day of Service 2018 12 Society of Excellence “The public loves it, the community loves it, that they come out here every year and help us out, beautifying the park and making everything look nice and beautiful for the summer season.” Adam Gilbertson, Maintenance Worker, Garfield Park S P E C I A L E D I T I O N UTAH S P E C I A L E D I T I O N ARIZONA/CALIFORNIA “On behalf of the Parks and Recreation Department, with the City of Boulder, I would like to thank you for your volunteer day with your Larry Miller Boulder Toyota employees at Valmont City Park. With all your support the park was able to make a difference with clean-up and aesthetics of the entrance to the park.” “It’s an invaluable service to have people come in from the community and just spruce things up—especially in the springtime. It makes our kids feel really important and valued to know that people from the community care enough to come out to make their space look nice. We couldn’t do projects like this without your help.” 4 Dealership Awards 6 LHM Day of Service 2018 12 Society of Excellence S P E C I A L E D I T I O N COLORADO/NEW MEXICO 4 Dealership Awards 6 LHM Day of Service 2018 12 Society of Excellence S P E C I A L E D I T I O N IDAHO/WASHINGTON Keith B. The Larry H. Miller Group of Companies LHM Group’s Guiding Principle #5: Go About Doing Good Until There’s Too Much Good in the World. Larry Miller understood the importance of giving back to the community, and he made it an integral part of his life. Gail Miller said, “Participating in our annual Day of Service is a wonderful way for our organization to carry on Larry’s legacy of helping others.” In addition to organized projects and participating in charitable causes, doing good in the world can be as simple as sharing a smile, holding the door open for someone, or performing a simple act of service. While small or insignificant to us, our gift of time, service, or kindness can make all the difference to someone in need. Discussion ideas for managers, leaders, and teams: 1. Whether you participated in an organized event and/or provided service on your own, what was your favorite part of the Day of Service? What was the most challenging or difficult part? 2. What causes or charities are close to your heart? These can range from local organizations to national groups. Make a list of the ways you can get involved. Are there ideas or projects your team/department could do to serve together this year?
