LHM Day of Service: Arizona/California Edition
Going About Doing Good
ARIZONA
The annual LHM Day of Service is one that employees throughout the company look forward
to each year—not only as a chance to help others but also as a way of sharing our company
culture with the world. In Arizona and California, employees braved the hot sun to give of their
time and energy to help others in multiple locations. In all, the experience was extremely positive
for everyone involved, and some of your co-workers—and some of the people we’ve helped— have
shared their feelings below. ◆
“Thanks to the entire Larry H. Miller
group for volunteering at the
Community Food Bank last week.”

“Our mission and values are an integral
part of business at our dealerships
every day. This annual event gives our

meaningful contribution to the Phoenix

a tangible way.”

“Yesterday, our little Tucson team helped clean and prepare books for
children, sorted and bagged 10 tons of produce, bundled and bagged 12,600
diapers, and helped dry-wall a house! It was a great morning! So far, we
have heard nothing but good about our morning of ‘Doing Good,’ and I know
I can personally say that April 26th is my favorite ‘work day’ year after year! ”

“One of the participants commented that one
of the beachgoers began picking up trash after
witnessing your team cleaning up the beach.
Some of you were also surprised at how much
trash was found on the beach. We appreciate
your support and partnership, and of course,
all the hard work you did at the cleanup. It is
so gratifying for us to see companies really dig
in and give back to our community. ”
Ally Kawamoto, Marine Debris Coordinator,
San Diego Coastkeeper
“Thank you to all your amazing
employees who volunteered with
Habitat Tucson to build strength,
stability, self-reliance and
shelter. You are truly making an
impact in our community.” Laura

The Larry H. Miller Group of Companies
LHM Group’s Guiding Principle #5: Go About Doing
Good Until There’s Too Much Good in the World.
Larry Miller understood the importance of giving back to the
community, and he made it an integral part of his life. Gail
Miller said, “Participating in our annual Day of Service is a
wonderful way for our organization to carry on Larry’s legacy
of helping others.” In addition to organized projects and
participating in charitable causes, doing good in the world
can be as simple as sharing a smile, holding the door open for
someone, or performing a simple act of service. While small
or insignificant to us, our gift of time, service, or kindness can
make all the difference to someone in need.
Discussion ideas for managers, leaders, and teams:
1. Whether you participated in an organized event
and/or provided service on your own, what was
your favorite part of the Day of Service? What
was the most challenging or difficult part?
2. What causes or charities are close to your heart?
These can range from local organizations to
national groups. Make a list of the ways you can
get involved. Are there ideas or projects your
team/department could do to serve together
this year?
