LHM Day of Service: Colorado/New Mexico Edition
Going About Doing Good
Every year on Larry H. Miller’s birthday,
employees from across the Group join
together to go out into their communities
and volunteer. We do this to honor Larry and
his wish that we “go about doing good until
there’s too much good in the world.”
During our eighth annual Day of Service,
more than 2,000 employees picked up rags,
paint brushes, rakes, garbage bags, and
hammers to clean, beautify, and repair the
places in our communities that needed the most
help. We exemplified our company values and
gave service to those who needed us.
In Albuquerque, more than 50 employees
gathered at the Children’s Grief Center to offer
a helping hand in beautifying the facility, which
provides services to children and families
dealing with the loss of a loved one. In Boulder,
employees landscaped and cleaned waterways at
the Valmont Bike Park; and in Colorado Springs,
we assembled care packages for the Springs
Rescue Mission and Catholic Charities, and
helped beautify the Garden of the Gods. Denver
employees spread out across the metro area at
city parks, Salvation Army’s, botanical gardens,
and facilities that serve families.
It’s amazing to see what we can accomplish
together in just a few hours. Multiply that
service by all of the other community efforts
we participate in throughout the year, and you
will see the tremendous impact we’re able to
have on our communities.
In addition to the “service” aspect of the
Day of Service, there are several other valuable
takeaways from the day:
• The camaraderie between employees who
are working together to accomplish a task
• New friendships that are made by interaction
between individuals whose jobs normally
wouldn’t cause them to interact
• The kind gestures that are shared between
coworkers sharing paint brushes, picking
weeds, and organizing cans on shelves
While all of this comes into focus on the Day
of Service, these values are exhibited throughout
our organization on a daily basis. Whether
it’s going that extra step to help a customer
with an issue, hosting coat drives during the
winter, collecting school supplies for children
at local schools, or volunteering as a teacher
or a mentor with a local children’s group, our
employees make a difference in their respective
communities year-round.
We thank you for your commitment to our
company values, and we thank you for making
the Larry H. Miller Group the best place in
town to work and the best place in town to
do business. ◆
LVW employees spent the day at the city
park planting trees, seeding, and mulching.

We created four different issues of Winning Spirit

activities in each of the different regions.
The Larry H. Miller Group of Companies
The Larry H. Miller Day of Service: Going about
doing good. A day of service doesn’t have to stop at just
a single day. Few things are more rewarding than giving
your time and talents to something you’re passionate
about. The impact of your gift of service on the lives of
others cannot be measured; in fact, it can make all the
diff erence to someone in need. Doing good—whether
at work, in our homes, or the community—is all about
enriching lives (including our own).
Discussion ideas for managers, leaders, and teams:
1. What causes or charities are close to your heart?
Do any of your coworkers share them as well?
Are there ideas or projects your team/department
could do to serve these causes together this year
or as part of the Day of Service next year?
2. If money and time were not obstacles, where
would you give and who would you help?
