GAIL MILLER HONORED
AS SLC GIANT IN THE CITY
MEGA GRAND OPENING
The Larry H. Miller Group performed its own form of movie magic by
helping to transform the former Geneva Steel site in Utah County with the
grand opening of the new Megaplex Theatres at Vineyard held on March 13,
2015. The newest Megaplex Theatres location created approximately 100
full- and part-time jobs and will help draw additional retail, entertainment,
and residential growth in the area.
The Miller Megaplex Theatres at Geneva features 13 digital screens
including a state-of-the-art digital IMAX® auditorium. The entire facility
accommodates approximately 3,000 guests at any time. Other industryleading innovations include D-Box motion seats, High Frame Rate
projection systems, and the award-winning Dolby sound technology,
Dolby Atmos® which moves audio around the theatre, even overhead, with
amazing richness and depth. The theatre also features exclusive new Quiet
Rooms in select auditoriums which are reserved especially for parents or
caregivers to tend to infants.
“We are committed to excellence for our customers and strive to be the
best place in town for guests to enjoy dinner and a movie with friends
and family,” said Blake Andersen, president of Megaplex Theatres. “We
focus on giving back to the communities in which we do business, and
look forward to getting involved with and being an integral partner to the
community of Vineyard and Utah County.”
The grand opening celebration officially marks the opening of the Group’s
18th theatre complex. The new Megaplex is an integral part of an ongoing
revitalization of the former Geneva Steel Site property.
Gail Miller’s legacy of business ventures and
philanthropic work were recognized in grand
fashion by the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce
when she was named the 36th “Giant In Our City”
at the Grand America Hotel on March 26, 2015.
Gail is only the second woman to receive the
award, joining Episcopal Bishop Carolyn Tanner
Irish. She and Larry Miller, who was honored in
2007, are the only husband and wife to have both
been named “Giant In Our City.”
“This is one of the awards that not very many
people get, (and) I know it’s given with great
thought,” Gail said at the event. “I couldn’t
imagine in my wildest dreams that I would be
honored as a ‘Giant In Our City.’”
“Gail is really getting this on her own merits,” A.
Scott Anderson, Zions Bank CEO and 2014 “Giant
In Our City” award winner, told the Deseret News.
“She’s tirelessly created miracles in our community.
She knows what it’s like to come from very little.
She knows what it’s like to sacrifice for other
people.”
Elder M. Russell Ballard, a member of the Quorum
of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints, also spoke at the
banquet, calling Gail an individual who centered
her life around service, both in small acts and in
the wider community.“Salt Lake City is a better
place to live because of you,” Elder Ballard said,
addressing Gail.
Gail’s community involvement is extensive and
includes her role as chair of the board of trustees
of Salt Lake Community College, serving on the
National Advisory Council at the University of
Utah, and sitting on the board of trustees for
Intermountain Healthcare. She serves on the
board of Zions Bank and she is co-chair of SLC
Mayor Becker’s Homeless Services Committee.
She is also a member of the Brigham Young
University President’s Leadership Council.
“There are many people in our community who are
dedicated to improving our state, but Gail Miller
has become a standout leader - even a ‘Giant’ in
our community,” said Lane Beattie, president and
CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber. “She has exhibited
over and over again wisdom and leadership that
has greatly blessed our community.”
