Message from Clark Whitworth, CEO of the LHM Group of Companies
An End to a Wonderful Journey
A
s we go through life, we are given the
opportunity to learn many wonderful
lessons. At the end of a long journey, we
might reflect on where we have been and the
wisdom we have gained along the way. I now
find myself in that exact situation as I look
back at my time here at work. I’m now at the
end of a journey of over 31 years with the Larry
H. Miller Group. As I write this article for the
Winning Spirit magazine and reflect on this
journey, I feel it would be good for me to share
some of my experiences.
The first lesson I learned before working
for the Group was when my previous employer
gave me the assignment to form a reinsurance
company, which I had never done before. One
day, the owner brought Larry Miller to my office
and said that Larry had formed a reinsurance
company and was willing to share his experience.
After an hour or so, he had taught me, in detail,
how to accomplish my task. Larry also had his
insurance company give me a mortgage loan
for my new house. His willingness to share
knowledge and help other people without
concern for what he would receive in return left
a lasting impression with me. I learned from
this experience that knowledge and information
were a gift that should be shared to help others.
Another important concept that has been
selected as one of the Group’s four values,
discussed by many, and demonstrated by many
is integrity. This isn’t a “sometimes” value or
principle. One can’t have integrity one day
and not the next. Some may say that there are
different levels of integrity. If so, I want to be
known for having the highest level. Many times I
saw the Miller organization and the Miller family
demonstrate the importance of integrity in how
they managed transactions. They always took the
highest road, even when there might have been a
negative monetary result for the Group.
Also, the impact of gratitude on those
who have worked to bring about success has
always impressed me. The influence from a
note or word of recognition on an individual
is significant. Larry would write a letter to
someone when they had set a record or achieved
a significant milestone to congratulate them and
let them know how proud he was of them and
their accomplishments. Often you would see the
letter hanging in the office or work station of the
person that had been recognized. I’m sure that
countless notes could be written to recognize the
many extraordinary things that are done daily
by the employees of the Larry H. Miller Group.
In conclusion, I want to express my
gratitude to Larry and Gail Miller and their
family for allowing me to be part of this great
company for over 31 years. Also, thanks to all
my friends and associates that have supported
me in all my roles and helped me by working
together to achieve something truly great. ◆

Clark Whitworth Career Highlights
Clark attended Utah State University,
graduating with a degree in accounting. He
went to work with a Big Eight accounting
firm based in New Orleans and passed his
CPA exam while there. Clark returned to
Salt Lake City working in public accounting
and then later as controller for Rick Warner
automotive. It was there that Clark first met
and began his relationship with Larry Miller.
After leaving Rick Warner, Clark began
working on special projects for the Group
before being hired full-time in the fall of 1987.
Since that time, Clark worked with Larry and
his executive teams on many of the Group’s
major projects and acquisitions, including
the financing and building of the Delta
Center (Vivint Smart Home Arena). Before
his March 2015 appointment as CEO, Clark
served for 21 years as chief financial officer
of several of the Group’s primary revenue-
generating business lines, including finance,
real estate, insurance, and automotive. He
was responsible for securing hundreds of
millions of dollars in financing and served
as a constant and trusted advisor to Group
ownership. The time Clark spent side by side
daily with Larry H. Miller and his decades
of experience working with the Miller family
were invaluable assets to guiding the
company during his tenure as CEO.
