Each business is profitable or has a solid action plan to become profitable. Milestone 2 We actively and effectively develop our people and build leaders. Milestone 3 We have provided work environments where our employees are safe, valued, and respected. Milestone 4 We have developed a well-trained employee base that emulates the Miller family values. Milestone 5 Every employee sees and understands the significance of their contributions to their particular business, the overall enterprise, and the community. Steve Miller presented Miller 2020 at Who We Are by President John F. Kennedy on September 12, 1962. President Kennedy stated, “We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.” President Kennedy created the vision; he did not create the plan of action to accomplish this goal. It is with similar passion that the Miller family has established the Miller 2020 Vision as a way to inspire the LHM Group to continue to achieve extraordinary things. According to Greg Miller, eldest son of Larry and Gail Miller, the Miller 2020 Vision positions the LHM Group for continued success, and that looking back 20 or 30 years from now, it will be acknowledged that the successful execution of this vision will be viewed as one of the Group’s most pivotal moments. Of the four areas of focus, the one most applicable to employees is the business area. The strategic business outcomes include milestones to measure our progress. Many of these milestones are employee-centric: they deal with developing individuals and building leaders, creating supportive work environments, and providing training opportunities. The successful accomplishment of these milestones represents significant commitments in time and resources to enriching the lives of employees and making this the best place to work. The Miller 2020 Vision is a demonstration of the Millers’ dedication to providing successful business environments that can flourish into the distant future to preserve the jobs the businesses provide and continue the good we do in the communities where we do business.
