UTAH UTAH A Fighting Spirit Bees Add Color to Cancer Awareness “ Pack the Park Pink” night for the Salt Lake Bees at Smith’s Ballpark hit home, especially for Larry H. Miller employees. The Bees recognized and honored those who have been affected by cancer by wearing pink jerseys with the name of the person impacted by the disease on the back. Pitcher Taylor Cole wore his #11 jersey with the name of Sherri Defa, an employee for more than 20 years at Vivint Smart Home Arena who passed away in May after a long battle with cancer. Manager Keith Johnson’s #21 jersey had the name of a neighbor, Tiffany, who died last year. Pitcher Ralston Cash’s #14 jersey was in memory of his father, Ralph. Cash has also created a charitable foundation that aims to comfort families who have lost a parent to the disease by providing Christmas gifts. Other LHMSE employees also dedicated jerseys in the name of family members fighting cancer. The Bees raised money with pink T-shirt sales and combined with Swing For Life to contribute $26,523 to the Huntsman Cancer Research Institute. Prior to the game, Cole, Cash, and other teammates visited the Huntsman Cancer Institute to spend time with patients and tour the facility as part of the 12th annual “Pack the Park Pink” initiative. ◆ Baseball for Education Utah Prevention Day with the Bees With Utah Gov.
