Choosing the Right Machine
How high is my job?
How high do you need to get? We give two maximum
height measurements - working and platform height. The
working height in this guide is 2m above where your feet
will be and the platform height is the maximum height the
platform will reach.
How much outreach do I need?
If you do not need to reach over any obstacles then
generally a scissor lift would be the best option. If you have
an obstacle to reach over then a boom lift is going to be
better suited. The size of boom that you would require is
not only dependant on the maximum height but also on
how far you need to reach out. Remember for all boom lifts,
as you use more outreach the maximum working height
reduces. Always check the working envelope
diagrams to ensure your job is within reach.
I am working inside, what do I need to know?
If you are working inside look for an electrically powered,
bi-energy or machine fitted with an exhaust filter.
Remember to check height and width restrictions in gaining
access to the building.
What are my ground conditions like?
There are different machines for different ground
conditions.
For finished floors non-marking tyres will help protect the
surface. On rough terrain a diesel machine is best and
for extremely rugged terrain a 4 wheel drive or a tracked
option would be recommended. For sloping ground where
a machine would need to be levelled choose one with
outriggers that can automatically level the machine for
safety.
Can I operate the machine myself?
All of our machines can be self operated. We can also
arrange for a qualified operator to operate your machine if
you wish. We are able to provide training courses for all our
machines which gives you a recognised operators licence.
