The most common skin type is combination, which is simply when the
person has oily spots and dry patches. Proper oil free and alcohol free
moisturizers and foundations work best for these types of skin. Oil prone
skin should not be washed with a scrub cleanser for this will only
stimulate the pores and produce more oil on the skin. After washing with
a foam or cream cleanser it is now time to hydrate the skin with an oil
free, water based moisturizer. Many oil prone skin types think that
moisturizers aren’t good for their skin at all and that they promote more
oil and so they stay away from them. In reality a lack of proper moisture
to the skin done by daily moisturizing and proper intake of water will only
force the pores to over produce more oil onto the surface of the skin
creating a shiny look to the face. I would personally recommend a green
tea moisturizer for these types of skin. Proper hydration to the body takes
a toll as well on the skin. Not enough water taken in daily can not only
cause the skin to over produce oils but also dry out skin on certain
people. These dry skin types have just as much struggle hiding their
patches as oil prone skin persons have hiding their shiny spots. Dry
patches can be tricky because most people with dry skin do moisturize
properly and daily but their patches still come through their foundation.
Typically it is because they use a powder foundation and what most
people don’t seem to realize is that powder only helps keep the skin
matte and dry. Dry skin types don’t need any more dry they need
hydration. Creams and liquid foundations are recommended for dry skin
types and a light finishing powder if they desire the Matte look. A
recommended moisturizer is one without alcohol. Most moisturizers do
contain alcohol as a top ingredient but there are some that are water
based and do not contain alcohol. An alcohol based moisturizer will only
dry out the face more and leave an itchy feeling causing more irritation to
the skin. A brilliant way to save money and keep the skin from drying is
taking a cotton ball and dabbing it with either olive oil or sunflower oil
and applying to the face or patches lightly. Gently rub with two fingers
into the skin. If the oil has not absorbed into your skin within two
minutes you have applied too much. After properly prepping the face
with a lotion and a primer is it now time to seek a foundation type.
