SARAH M DORSEY DESIGNS STEP ONE: Create a template of your design using a drawing computer program such as Illustrator. Print on several pieces of 8.5 x 11 paper and tape together. Map out your pattern on your rug using tape. Run tape down the middle of the points of your shape so they line up. STEP TWO: Trace the pattern onto the plywood. STEP FOUR: Lay your plywood template on your rug, remove tape in the area you are about to paint. Using a small gun lightly spray the edges. If you don’t have a spray gun can you use a brush, however you may get feathered edges. Press firmly on the plywood to prevent underspray. Tip: Use some old paper or something similar around the edges to prevent overspray landing on your rug outside your shape. STEP THREE: Cut out the pattern using a jigsaw. WHAT YOU NEED: Plywood for stencil Fabric medium: I recommend Simple spray upholstery fabric paint. Paint brush Paint sprayer Rug 5’11” x 8’2” Jigsaw Tape STEP FIVE: Using a small good quality brush paint the interior of your shape. Leave to dry. Once dry apply a second even coat. You may need to apply a further coat depending upon on the material of rug. Tip: Use a matt paint to reduce the sheen. Also a lighter paint color will require less coats. courtesy of www.sarahmdorseydesigns.blogspot.com.au
