69 Taking that step… JAMES JAGGER PHOTOGRAPHER PROFILE WORDS: WINDSURFING UK PHOTOS: JAMES JAGGER WWW.JAMESJAGGERPHOTOGRAPHY.COM AND WWW.SIXFOOTANDPUMPKIN.COM AS MUCH AS WINDSURFING IS ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS ON THE WATER THERE’S ALSO A WANT/NEED FOR DOCUMENTATION – AFTER ALL, WITHOUT THESE TYPES THERE WOULDN’T BE ANY VIDS, IMAGES OR INDEED MAGAZINES SUCH AS THE ONE YOU’RE READING NOW. A plethora of camera addicts exists who get all snap happy when the wind blows. We’ve already featured Joe Cockle (see issue two for profile) and now we’re highlighting south coast based James Jagger. James recently went full time with his photography which prompted us to sit down with JJ for a natter. I was always encouraged to use a camera on family holidays from an early age. The first time that stands out was on a ski trip to Austria when I captured an image of a paraglider silhouetted against the sun. I loved the way the shot showed the interaction between an adventure sport and the natural environment and from that point onwards I was hooked. I’ve wanted to be a full-time freelance photographer for over 10 years but it’s been a question of plugging away alongside a full-time teaching job until I was in a position to make it a reality. In the last 12 months, the photography has gone to another level which has meant I’ve been able to leave my job as a teacher and go full-time with the photography. uk WIND SURFING
