WORDS FROM THE AUSTRALIAN WINDOW ASSOCIATION
W
elcome to the final edition of Windows
for 2017.
NIGEL CHALK
Chairman of the Board,
Australian Window
Association
It’s an important and perpetual role of
the AWA Board of Directors to focus on strategic
initiatives to strengthen the industry and create
value for all members. With a new strategic plan
underway for 2018, one of the most important
initiatives during 2017 was the progression of a
potential merger between the Australian Window
Association (AWA) and the Australian Glass and
Glazing Association (AGGA).
Over many years, the AWA and AGGA have
been exploring opportunities to work closer
together and participate in joint activities. A
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was
signed, we have participated in joint conferences
and, as more recently announced, convened a
boards’ nominated working group consisting of
members from both Associations. This led to the
unanimous agreement that the potential merger
of both Associations be pursued. This working
group has now been tasked with considering what
the structure should look like and how it may be
implemented.
I’m sure you will agree that this is a sensible,
grounded initiative and will place the total
fenestration industry in line with best international
practice and provide a more powerful
accreditation, training and advocacy position. We
will ensure that all member s and partners are kept
informed of the progress of this initiative.
The Association exists to support your business
success so don’t forget to utilise the many benefits
on offer from being a part of Australia’s peak
industry body.
On behalf of the AWA Board of Directors, I thank
you for your continued support of the AWA over
the last year and wish all readers a safe and happy
Christmas and New Year.
