SINGLE GLAZED HOME ACHIEVES
6 STAR ENERGY RATING
It’s hard to believe that this residence in
Northcote was made this naturally bright
and energy efficient using a single glazed
magnetron coat Low-E.
A
seamless combination of heritage and modern
elegance sums up this two story home extension
in Northcote and it is certainly easy on the eyes.
Architects, Ballemo & Cat, builders, Beirin Projects and
Build Her Collective, selected Glassworks’ LoE-i89®
6 mm toughened Low-E glass for the entire facade due
to its superior clarity, without the haze, as well as thermal
performance.
But perhaps the most appealing feature of LoE-i89®
for residential windows is that it is the only Low-E glass
of its kind able to achieve such performance - even

monolithically - keeping the overall costs down.
The magnetron coating on LoE-i89® is Indium Tin Oxide
(ITO). As it is not a silver based coat, the product is
approved for use as an exposed coating and can be
used in monolithic configurations as surface two or in
Insulated Glass Units (IGUs) as surface four. ITO coated
glass is widely used in the United States and Canada in
this way to avoid the need for a triple glazed unit.
In fact, this home was built using 80 m 2 of LoE-i89® glass
and has been awarded a 6-star energy rating despite
opting for single glazed units.
What’s more, LoE-i89 comes standard with Neat®
technology, an easy-clean titanium dioxide coating on the
outside which is activated by harnessing the suns rays to
lift dirt so the rain can wash it away with minimal streaks.
This makes it not only a low energy window solution,
but also low maintenance as far less window cleaning is
required.
