WINDOWS | PRODUCTS 01 F AT LAST! or years, the Australian timber joinery industry has sought ways to deliver a more fully finished product to market in any colour or timber finish, using a process that is economical to apply, and takes minimal capital to setup. This is already a reality in Europe, the United States, Britain and even Russia. So why must Australia still suffer the problems of painters that paint the windows shut or pull out the rubber seals that timber joiners have so carefully installed? Zobel Coating Systems, the German coating systems manufacturer, has some good news for Australia. Zobel has worked with the fenestration industry for over 50 years to perfect the right products to coat all main timber species being used in the industry. NEW COATING SOLUTIONS REACH THE AUSTRALIAN MARKET Zobel Coatings has appointed Zobel Australia as the exclusive distributor in Australia and New Zealand. 01 Timber window frames during the coating process. 02 Zobel Computerised Colour Mixing System provides unlimited color tones. 48 Spring 2017 02 TIMBER JOINERS CAN OFFER FULLY FINISHED TIMBER PRODUCTS The Principal of Zobel Australia, Barry Dovey, has extensive experience in the building and joinery industries in both Australia and New Zealand. He explains the significant advantages that Zobel products offer, “This product has been thoroughly tested to ensure that is suitable for Australian timber, in Australian conditions. The method used to apply the product will give manufacturers an economical solution to supply prefinished timber joinery.” Barry recently returned from the German headquarters of Zobel Coatings where he undertook specialist application training. He was impressed with Zobel Coatings’ commitment to ongoing research and development and the provision of technical support to its customers. The product tested for the Australian market is Zowo-Tec®. These water based coatings have very low volatility, are non-toxic and can be mixed to provide any required colour. The coating system is applied in three coats; a primer, an intermediate coat and finally a top coat. The first two coats are applied by either a dip coating system or flow coating, while the final one is applied by spray. The process ensures that there is no wastage and very even application. SAVE MONEY, SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT Because the coatings are water-based rather than solvent-based, Zowo-Tec® is truly environmentally friendly during transportation, application and finally as a component of a finished building. Barry believes that the green credentials of the product will appeal to architects and their customers. Zowo-Tec® are very cost competitive. The system will cost far less than conventionally painted joinery. Barry also believes that because it can be installed as soon as it is delivered to site, there is a far lesser risk of damage, theft or vandalism.
