GLASSWORKS PUTS NEW HIGHS AND LOWS IN LOW-E GLASS

Glass technology is certainly keeping up with and even surpassing market demand for performance and insulation properties. Glassworks collaborates with leaders worldwide to ensure that technological advancements in glass reach the Australian market almost as soon as they are developed.

The latest collaboration with Pilkington, to bring the new Pilkington Optitherm™ exclusively to the Australian market, is no exception. Pilkington Optitherm™ represents yet another superior low-emissivity( Low-E) glass variant to join Glassworks’ growing range of Performance Glass solutions.
Ideal for residential windows, Optitherm™ is a clear Low-E product that has exceptionally high clarity and insulation properties. Like Glassworks’ tested and proven LoE-i89 ® Clear glass, it too is designed to allow natural light to enter a building whilst providing natural
insulation. This has positive effects on the occupants of a building as there is far less reliance on artificial light and cooling / heating. Not to mention the associated energy savings and environmental benefits.
As always though, the proof is in the figures. Optitherm™ is offered double glazed( in an Insulated Glass Unit) and achieves an exceptional Visible Light Transmission( VLT) of 80 per cent( the percentage of natural light entering a room). Although, this doesn’ t mean the hot summer sun will heat up a room as it also achieves a low Solar Heat Gain Coefficient( SHGC) of 0.62( the thermal stopping power of the sun’ s radiation) and a U-Value of 1.38( ability to block the heat being transferred through the glass). To put this into perspective, a typical Low-E glass produces a VLT of 72 per cent and U-Value of 1.6, both considered‘ good’ but nowhere near as good as Optitherm™.
But what about the colder
months? A true all-rounder, its high clarity allows the winter sun to enter a room for the enhanced comfort of occupants.
Optitherm™ joins Glassworks’ Low-E glass range of LoE-366 ® which features a pioneering triple layer of silver for unrivalled thermal insulation all year round. LoE-340 ® achieves an exceptional SHGC of 0.18 with a more than an industry sufficient VLT of 38 per cent. Also taking the residential window market by storm is
LoE-i89 ®, a high clarity option ideal for colder months which can be left single glazed for a cost-effective solution or double gazed for advanced performance.

ENERGY SAVING GLASS( UK) INVESTS IN NEW FOREL VERTICAL CUTTING LINE

One of the United Kingdom’ s most successful and progressive manufacturers of Insulated Glass Units( IGUs) has recently installed Forel’ s upgraded, fully automated Vertical Laminated Glass Cutting Line. This new technology has the capability to process full sheet laminated glass stock, entirely in the vertical axis.

Looking to expand business from their traditional model to supplying product to an expanding customer base of glass processors, Energy Saving Glass UK now have the ability to substantially increase their overall output whilst dramatically reducing their machinery footprint. Capable of processing sheets up to 6000 mm x 3300 mm, the new Forel Vertical Cutting Line achieves cut-to-size accuracy to within ± 0.2 mm / linear metre, while the square cut feature is also guaranteed by revolutionary cutting bridges that adjust to within ± 15 mm, accommodating out-of-square glass, a new feature introduced by Forel in 2016. Keeping glass in the vertical throughout the cutting process also reduces tension of the applied load on the glass sheet and, with it, the risk of breakage.
“ This is an exciting new development from Forel,” says Neil Searle, Managing Director of OGA.“ This technology is exclusive to Forel and positions them firmly as an industry leader in the manufacture of innovative glass processing technology.”
