T he William Walker, a popular pub situated in the heart of Winchester on The Square, has reopened following extensive refurbishment. Manager Matthew Price has overseen the refurbishment; the pub retains its traditional pub feel but with a few modern touches, such as a brass-topped bar on which a selection of cocktails and craft beers are served. William Walker was an English diver famous for shoring up the southern and eastern side of Winchester Cathedral in 1887. Prior to his work, undertaken in total darkness due to sediment, the Cathedral had been in imminent danger of collapse, sinking into peaty ground.
