The William Walker reopens
following refurbishment
‘‘
The William Walker is a great pub and
this refurbishment has allowed us to
make the most of its historical features.

T
he William Walker, a
popular pub situated in
the heart of Winchester
on The Square, has
reopened following extensive
refurbishment.
Manager Matthew Price has
overseen the refurbishment; the
pub retains its traditional pub feel
but with a few modern touches,
such as a brass-topped bar on
which a selection of cocktails and
craft beers are served.
Serving Fuller’s favourite drinks,
guest ales, wines, coffee and soft
drinks, the new menu will continue

to feature fresh, home-made
delicious food, includes sharing
plates and seasonal dishes.
William Walker was an English
diver famous for shoring up the
southern and eastern side of
Winchester Cathedral in 1887.
Prior to his work, undertaken in
total darkness due to sediment,
the Cathedral had been in
imminent danger of collapse,
sinking into peaty ground. Walker
shored up the walls by putting
concrete underneath, which
allowed conventional bricklayers
to restore the damaged walls.
