Facial with a difference

Review : Helen Chambers

THE WORLD of facial treatments can be daunting and bewildering , and we ask ourselves if they make a difference ? Whilst not a relaxing facial , the Advanced Dermapen Microneedling Treatment at Vita Skin Spa at St Peter ’ s Street , Winchester , is a facial with a difference , results-driven , with long term results after six weeks continuing up to a year , plus a difference to the quality and texture of skin after approximately three weeks .

It is not a facial to have before a night out , due to reddening of the skin that takes place after treatment , but rather one which produces long term benefits to your skin . My consultant , Poppy , began by determining my skin concerns to decide the best way to treat my face and neck . This was to be done using mesotherapy ( a bespoke tailoring of ingredients to best suit the client ) to aid rejuvenation and tightening of the skin .
Treatment began with a double cleansing and toning , followed by an anti-aging masque , whereby fruit acid peel was applied , which gently exfoliated my skin , and mesotherapy before Dermapen Microneedling Treatment . Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy , this uses a sterile , singleuse cartridge of needles in a pen-like device , to target the outer layer of the skin causing small traumas to the treated areas . This encourages the body ’ s ability to repair itself and produce new collagen , resulting in smoother , firmer , more radiant , youthful skin .
It can be used for the treatment of several skin issues including acne scarring and rosacea , surgical scars , fine lines and wrinkles , stretch marks , enlarged pores , pigmentation and sun damage as well as lifting and tightening of skin . The depth of the needles can be altered to control the targeted areas to aid cell regeneration . Poppy began with my forehead and worked quickly over areas of my face and neck , concentrating on those where I wanted to see most improvement . The procedure wasn ’ t painless , but certainly tolerable – a scratchy sensation – with some areas more sensitive than others .
My face was then treated with a LED light mask ( to maximise the effectiveness and boost collagen production ), barrier repair and SPF
50 . After the treatment my skin appeared red and flushed , similar to moderate sunburn , however skin tightness and mild sensitivity diminished after 24 hours .
I found this an effective , minimally invasive way to improve skin health , there is a definite improvement in overall tone and texture , and fine lines have been reduced .
• Three sessions at four to six week intervals are usually recommended ( though results will be seen after one treatment ). vitaskinspa . co . uk
