THE GRANGE FESTIVAL
Head to the stately surroundings of The Grange in Northington for its Summer festival and book for performances including Così Fan Tutte , Dido and Aeneas , The Queen of Spades and Ellington : From Stride to Strings , which celebrates the musical life of jazz composer Duke Ellington . The festival runs until 7 July . Dressing to impress is positively encouraged – as are posh picnics in the grounds during the long interval .

DRESS UP DAY AT JANE AUSTEN ’ S HOUSE
Visit Jane Austen ’ s House on 15 July for its annual Dress Up Day when visitors from across the world come to the celebrated author ’ s house in Chawton in Regency regalia . See them – and join them - strutting their stuff in the house , preening on the lawn , and promenading in the shrubberies . Jane died in Winchester on 18 July 1817 .

WAR HORSES AT THE ROYAL LOGISTICS CORPS MUSEUM
Visit The Royal Logistics Corps Museum in Worthy Down Barracks from 11 to 13 August and find out about horse transport and supply lines of the First World War .
Horses & Wagons - The Unsung Heroes of the First World War will include a living history display of First World War horse transport and supply lines . Uniformed experts will be on hand to explain the life and work of war horses and there will be displays of some of the horse-drawn vehicles in the Heritage Team ’ s collection . The three-day event will also have displays of First World War weapons and a Vickers Gun , a short length of working light rail to demonstrate resupply to the trenches .

SCIENCE LATES
Thought that Winchester Science Centre was just for kids ? Think again ! Science Lates take place on the first Friday evening of every other month from 6.30 to 10pm and include a live DJ , a bar , live science demos aimed at adults and a live tour of the solar system in the Planetarium . The next Science Lates is on 4 August .
