Dr Eugenia de Luna Serra from REMEDI HEALTH explains how a holistic approach can transform the way you look – and feel
Dr Eugenia de Luna Serra has a flawless complexion . It ’ s what you might expect from the skin doctor at REMEDI HEALTH ’ s skin clinic on Southgate Street . But that ’ s until she shows you a photo of her teenage face with deep acne pockmarks . “ It hasn ’ t always been this way ,” she says .
It was in part due to the impact of her own acne that Eugenia decided to specialise in skin care and aesthetic medicine in the first place : “ Like a lot of people I was caught in a public health system with long waiting lists to see a dermatologist , then harsh generic medication and more waiting to get anything reviewed . My skin got worse and worse .
“ At REMEDI HEALTH I work in a much more holistic way , exploring clients ’ diets , lifestyles and wellbeing before helping to improve their skin . Typical conditions include acne , rosacea , dermatitis , hyperpigmentation , eczema and psoriasis – and I regularly see significant improvement .”
Clients are offered blood tests to assess hormone levels , vitamin and mineral levels and auto-immune issues to properly understand what ’ s happening inside their bodies . “ You can ’ t treat skin in isolation if there are underlying issues ,” Eugenia explains .
“ What we feed our skin from the inside – and topically on the outside – is important . As well as discussing diet , health and lifestyle I can prescribe medical-level products – but gently , so I can see how the skin responds , and work from there .”
The products that Eugenia are referring to are from the Mesoestetic range . They are prescription-only and contain higher levels of key ingredients like salicylic acid and retinol than are in products you can buy over the counter . “ Regular review means we can tweak products at any time , so they do their job properly ,” Eugenia says . She can also recommend other skin care brands without prescription .
And it ’ s not only skin problems that Eugenia treats . “ I also offer injectable aesthetics like Botox and fillers ,” she says . “ Clients have the peace of mind that I am medically trained and my approach comes from a medical background .”
She adds , “ Being comfortable in your own skin is critical to how you feel . I give my clients lots of time to properly talk about their concerns and offer treatment that is tailored to their needs . For many , the changes I can make are life-changing .”
