My job
PCSOs are a bit like bobbies on the beat . We ’ re the eyes and ears of the police on the ground and in the community .
I ’ ve been a PCSO for over 14 years and I ’ m often out with PCSO Neil Parker , who is one of the best people I know .
Favourite city landmark
Not a landmark as such , but a special place . I love stopping at the city lookout from St Giles Hill , where you can see the whole of Winchester in front of you . The view changes with every season .
For a pit stop
I ’ ve started going to the NAAFI Café on St George ’ s Street , which supports British forces overseas , overseas and does a great toastie . For a cuppa on the go I call in at Honey + Harvey on The Square , where the coffee is really good .
For a pint after work
It has to be The Westgate . Our Winchester HQ is almost opposite and it ’ s always the pub we go to if we ’ re celebrating a birthday or someone is leaving .
We have to change out of our uniforms to get served , as it ’ s an offence to serve a police officer an alcoholic drink if they ’ re on duty .
Going green
I ’ m renowned in the office for going through wastepaper bins and naming and shaming when I find something that could go in one of our recycle bins . I ’ m the same at home too – much to the annoyance of my kids !
In the great outdoors
I ’ ve got a dog and we spend a lot of time walking together . My favourite Winchester walk is through the water meadows from The Bishop on the Bridge , with a stop at The Handlebar Café on the way back .
Going above and beyond
As police , we do lots of little things to help people . That might be getting a kid to school when they ’ ve taken a tumble on their bike or popping in on people who have ended up in hospital to check they ’ re ok . My team in Winchester are the best I ’ ve ever worked with . They go the extra mile every single day .
