Munch at Unit 12 in Winnall is a not-for-profit café offering healthy affordable food which can also be taken away . It ’ s open from 9am to 2pm on weekdays and uses surplus ingredients whenever possible , putting its profits into community cooking and healthy-eating workshops . The food we ’ ve had here has been fantastic and there ’ s Wi-Fi in the café if you want to work there too .

If you ’ d like some company with your cuppa , The Salvation Army in Parchment Street runs a coffee morning every Friday during term time where you can tuck in to cakes and toasties with your tea and coffee for a voluntary donation .

EMMAUS ’ GREEN ROOF CAFE
Emmaus at Bar End offers homeless people accommodation and a job in its large charity shop . It ’ s a great place to shop for furniture and household bits and pieces as well as pre-loved books , records and DVDs . Its Green Roof Café is run by its ‘ companions ’, who serve hot and cold drinks , paninis and cakes every day of the week .

United Church in Jewry Street runs a coffee bar from 10am to 12pm from Monday to Friday . It ’ s an ideal city-centre stop for low-cost hot and cold drinks and home-made cakes . All profits support local and international charities .

Hope Church on Middle Brook Street runs a Monday coffee bar from 1pm to 2.30pm which welcomes people of all ages . Coffee or tea is currently free of charge and its volunteers are always happy to chat if you ’ re on your own .
