COMMUNITY

SHARING THE LOVE ACROSS THE CITY

Want to make a difference to others ? Here ’ s how …

HANDS OF GIVING FOR LOCAL HEROES

In Spring 2020 , jewellers across the world started making medals as a token of gratitude for front-line medical workers . All the medals were based on the same template – an open hand of giving – which was then given an individual take by each jeweller .
City metalsmith Emily Smith , who works from The Colour Factory in River Park , has gifted copper medals through lockdown and is continuing to make them for front-line NHS staff . She ’ s asking for a £ 2 donation to cover postage , but is giving her time and materials for free . Email her at emily @ the-metalsmith . co . uk .

MAKE SOMEONE FEEL WANTED

Butterflies started out as a local bereavement-support charity but soon become aware that people of all ages were lonely and isolated . Its Opening Doors project provides telephone buddies who make a weekly call to someone with shared interests . As well as supporting older people , the charity provides buddies for younger people , some of whom have full-time jobs but still feel they lack friends . If you ’ d like to volunteer as a buddy , contact Paul on 07889 009393 .

PAY IT FORWARD ...

Several city cafés will accept donations to gift a coffee or tea to someone in need – be that a homeless person in the street or perhaps just someone who a barista feels could do with a boost . If you ’ d like to gift a cuppa to a stranger , you can do so via our Pay It Forward jars at Josie ’ s , Jewry Street , Cobbs Farm Shop , Headbourne Worthy and The Square by Coffeelab . If you ’ re a café and would like to sign up , drop us a line .
