Appeal A student may appeal the Provost ’ s dismissal decision through a letter of appeal to the President . The student must file the letter within 72 hours of the dismissal decision and be based on one of three grounds : that the Provost ’ s decision was based on inaccurate or unfounded information , clearly inconsistent with written rules or prior precedents , or the result of misinterpretation or bias . The President , in consultation with a Board Advisory Committee , will make the final disposition on any appeal . Questions concerning this process should be directed to the Vice President of Student Affairs .
CONDUCT CODE : DISCIPLINARY APPEAL
Disciplinary Appeal and the Conduct Code Review Committee
It is the college ’ s intention to be fair and consistent in the enforcement of the Conduct Code . To this end , the college has established a Conduct Code Review Committee ( CCRC ) to consider individual violations under disciplinary appeal , which are brought before it by students .
Membership { 7 / 21 / 17 } The Conduct Code Review Committee ( CCRC ) is composed of seven members and four alternates who are appointed or elected . The committee includes :
• One administrator and one administrator alternate , appointed by the Provost , serve for a year .
• Two faculty and one faculty alternate , elected by the Faculty Association and approved by the Vice President of Academic Affairs , serve three consecutive semesters : first as alternate , then as Secretary , and finally as Chair or Vice Chair .
Each year near the end of the Spring semester , the trade faculty , the Vice President of Research and Assessment , and the Vice President of Student Affairs will appoint six juniors and six freshmen ( one each from each trade program ) to serve on the CCRC during the next school year . Four students are asked to serve at each CCRC hearing . On occasion , when the members or alternates are unavailable ( e . g ., summer ), other staff , faculty , or students may be selected to temporarily serve on the review committee .
Student Process for Appealing a Violation { 7 / 17 / 17 }
1 . Speak to the faculty / staff member who issued the violation in an effort to resolve the issue . ( Students may , and are encouraged to , informally direct questions regarding unappealable offenses to the Student Affairs Office in order to better understand the application .)
2 . If unresolved , submit an online Disciplinary Appeal Form (“ Appeal ”) found in Blackbaud under “ Forms ” by the end of the day on the Thursday after the violation is posted .
3 . The Vice President of Student Affairs will determine if the violation meets the criteria for a valid appeal , and if so , forward it to the Chair of the CCRC . The Chair assesses the merit of your appeal and determines if a Hearing is justified . If so , a Hearing is scheduled ; if not , the violation is upheld . ( The administrator alternate will serve in this capacity and throughout the process if the CCRC Chair issued your violation .)
4 . If a Hearing is not held ( denied ), you will be notified , with an explanation for the denial .
5 . If an Appeal Hearing is held , the CCRC will listen to the issuing faculty or staff member and your respective accounts . You may arrange to bring witnesses to your hearing . The CCRC then votes by majority to uphold , remove , or modify the violation .
6 . The decision is then distributed to all parties involved .
7 . The administration may expedite the process for submitting and / or hearing appeals , as necessary .
