member , and in accordance with the severity of the offense . Repeat offenses for the same violation may result in an escalation of the points assigned .
Each academic year , Disciplinary Points accumulate on a student ’ s record beginning with the start of sport camps in August .
After learning that a student has committed a Conduct Code violation , a faculty / staff member has two business days to submit a violation through the Blackbaud system ( if an investigation is necessary , that two days begins at the end of the investigation ). For example , a staff member who discovers a violation on Tuesday has until the close of business on Thursday to submit the violation ; if he discovers the violation on Thursday , he has until the close of business on Monday to submit the violation .
Within 24 hours of submitting a violation , Student Affairs will either validate the violation and assign points or seek additional clarifying information from the submitting faculty / staff member . Student Affairs will not approve violations that are submitted beyond the two business day timeperiod . Students will receive email notification from Blackbaud with the specifics of the infraction once the violation is approved by Student Affairs .
If a faculty / staff member recommends more points to a violation than is standard practice , the violation submission should include justification for the additional points . The Vice President of Student Affairs may consult with the issuing member and , if necessary , adjust the violation in order to maintain a consist application of the Conduct Code . If a violation is assigned as a result of a reporting function , the administration reserves the right to withdraw violations due to extenuating circumstances .
For violations recommended for 8 points or less based on the standard , the assigning faculty or staff member will be notified of the final disposition of the violation via email within the next business day . For violations recommended for greater than 8 points , Student Affairs will communicate directly with the assigning faculty or staff member to confirm details of the incident and come to an agreement on the points assigned to the violation .
In order to maintain a fair application of the Conduct Code , the college has an established process for students to contest the veracity of an issued violation to the Conduct Code Review Committee (“ CCRC ”). See “ Disciplinary Appeal and the Conduct Code Review Committee ” found later in this Handbook for more details . However , it should be noted that not all violations are subject to the official appeal process . In general , if the violation is simply a citation based on yes / no circumstances , then that violation may not be appealed . For example , if a student arrives at 8:02am for an 8am class and is cited for being late , that violation may not be appealed . The student either was or was not late as noted by the instructor . In any case , students are encouraged to speak to the issuing authority and questions may be directed to the Vice President of Student Affairs .
