overlap in either time or season and it is not feasible to do both . Questions about conflicts should be directed to the Student Affairs office . Typically , the first few weeks of the fall semester are considered a trial period for all student activities : students may enroll in an activity , evaluate it , and , if they choose , drop the activity without penalty . To aid students in deciding whether they want to commit to a particular activity , the Athletic director will schedule an Activities Night event during the trial period . Students who drop out of an activity are required to enroll in another activity before the end of the trial period , which will be announced well in advance . All activities , both Sport and Full-Year , may limit enrollment to a specific number of participants .
Students may submit proposals for new activities to facilitate this requirement to the Athletic Director and the Vice President of Student Affairs .
By the end of the trial period , all students must sign a Commitment Agreement to participate in a selected activity ( regardless of season ), after first having met with and received approval from the respective Coach / Activity Leader . Students who are playing a fall sport must sign a Commitment Agreement for that sport by the end of the preseason period . This allows the student ample time to find another activity during the trial period and it allows the coaching staff ample time to adjust the team roster .
Failure to sign up for an activity by the end of the trial period constitutes neglect of duty . See the sections on Underclassmen Details and Time on Grounds for information on how Activities affect these requirements .
Consequence for Non-Participation A student who quits an activity to which he has committed is dismissed from the activity , or who fails to participate in the activity , will be assigned 8 disciplinary points and 4 consecutive days of Saturday Grounds Detail .
Other Issues Students generally may not serve Time on Grounds , sit Power Plant shift , or be shop foreman at the same time they are scheduled to participate in a student activity ( exceptions to this rule are approved on a case-by-case basis by the Vice President of Student Affairs ). Students on power plant outages must attend the activity to which they have committed . Activity commitments take precedence over Power Plant Shift rotations . Students should inform the Power Plant Director of their activity conflict in advance so that a replacement can be assigned .

Varsity sports include cross-country , football , soccer , basketball , wrestling , baseball , tennis , and lacrosse . To participate in varsity athletic competition , a student must be in good academic standing ( see Strict Academic Probation below ) and have a signed commitment form on file . Students who choose to leave a team for any reason face disciplinary action ( see “ Consequences for Non- Participation ”) and must see the head coach personally to return all equipment at that time . Students will be billed for missing equipment .
The Restall Sports Center directly supports varsity athletic activities and offers a basketball court , an indoor running track , an outdoor tennis court , and other facilities . Hours of operation are determined and published by the Athletic Director . Students may use athletic fields on weeknights during the fall and spring semesters , however , any other use of fields or facilities by students or nonstudents is at the discretion of the Athletic Director . A wrestling and training facility is located above the Power Plant Shop . Additionally , there is a full outdoor basketball court adjacent to the Lipp Center .
The outdoor tennis court is for tennis playing only . No other activities are permitted on this court . Tennis court reservations may be made with the Athletic Director . Williamson will provide rackets and balls , if needed .
