1 . During the academic day and on weekends , all beds must be made neatly as shown below , with a clean , blue , college-issued blanket and a standard sized pillow . The pillow must be at the top of the bed and the blanket along with the top sheet , must be folded back halfway down the height of the pillow ( see image , right ).
Students may strip their beds for laundering over weekends and academic breaks . When laundering their college-issued blanket during the academic day , they must place a note on their beds with their name , the date , and the signature of the dorm manager . Failure to do so constitutes partial neglect of duty . Students who abuse this rule will be cited . Additional blankets are available from the Director of Residence Life for a fee of $ 25 each .
2 . Laptop computers need to be secured when the student is not in their room . 3D printers , TVs , stereos , DVD players , and camcorders are prohibited . Desktop computers , due to size , are not permitted .
3 . Air conditioners , space heaters , and electric blankets are prohibited . Box fans up to 20 ” are permitted . Humidifiers are permitted only when accompanied by a doctor ’ s order ; they must be turned off when the student is not in his room .
4 . Bunk beds properly assembled are permitted . In many rooms , the beds are bunked . Due to space considerations , room set-ups for separate beds are subject to approval of the Director of Residence Life .
5 . Throw rugs are permitted but must be kept clean and in good shape . Frayed or excessively dirty throw rugs are not allowed .
6 . Posters and other wall decorations may be hung from cork strips or on walls using removeable mounting putty products . Tacks , tape , or other permanent adhesives may not be used on the walls , bookcases , etc . Posters must be in good taste and are subject to the approval of the Director of Residence Life .
7 . All valuables must be stored in college-provided lockers ( wooden wardrobes or closets ) which must be locked whenever a student is not in his room . Leaving an unlocked locker / closet or a locker / closet key in the room is a 4-point offense . Additionally , if a student does not have a roommate and is using the second locker in his room , he must lock it when he is not in his room .
8 . Toiletries must be stored in lockers or closets , not in open view .
9 . Nothing may be stored on top of dorm lockers . Longstreth residents may store items neatly in the storage areas above the closets .
10 . Only books , clean baseball caps , and decorative items may be kept on bookshelves . Only towels ( not washcloths ) may hang from bookshelf hooks .
11 . Only footlockers , plastic storage containers , luggage , duffle bags , and shoes may be kept under student beds ( it is highly recommended that all containers be locked and any container with a lock on it must be locked at all times ). Shoes must be in a neat row under the bed starting at the foot of the bed as in “ Bed Example ” image above . The toes must be parallel to the side rail of the bed point out . When a pair of shoes is removed , the others must be pushed together to fill the gap . Bunk bed pillows must align with the ownership of the shoes under the bottom bunk .
12 . All food items must be kept in the student ’ s locker . If additional food storage space is needed , then students are permitted to have ONE sealed storage container for all other food items under their bed .
