Building for the Future Final Report and 2020-2021 Financial Highlights
From Arlene A . Snyder , CFRE , Vice President for Institutional Advancement
It is not often that an institution gets the opportunity to announce a successful fundraising campaign . We know that Williamson College of the Trades has a world-class , unique mission in preparing deserving young men to be respected leaders and productive members of society . Seeing the successful support of this mission only proves that we have a group of partners that values expanding the opportunity for our students at Williamson .
I ’ m thrilled to join President Rounds and our Board of Trustees in celebrating a resounding success for our Building for the Future comprehensive capital campaign . Through generous , significant gifts from our donors , the college exceeded our goal of $ 60 million , officially reaching $ 82.4 million during the 2016-2021 campaign .
Each successful piece of this campaign was the product of the investment of many individuals , but each gift has a personal story . We would be remiss if we did not recognize the philanthropy of two key individuals who provided the leadership gifts that bookended this fundraising initiative .
In 2016 , Lee Rowan , wife of the late Henry Rowan , made an $ 11 million leadership gift to spearhead our fundraising for the campaign , supporting the expansion of our dining hall , an increase of our endowment , and upgrades to the Lee Rowan School of Power Plant Technology . In addition , the Henry M . Rowan Family Foundation provided endowment support , funding for various capital projects , and annual operating gifts through generous grant funding .
In 2021 , Joseph and Marion Wesley added to their transformational pledge , giving a total of $ 21.2 million to build the Joseph L . and Marion M . Wesley Student Center and exterior enhancements to be completed in 2023 . The Wesleys were inspired to invest in the Williamson education model , producing not only quality tradesmen , but also men of character and patriotism . Their support of our student life initiatives allowed us to surpass our expectations for the campaign and sets the foundation for the expanding opportunities we desire for our students .
By no means do these leaders in philanthropy diminish the host of other generous friends , family , and alumni who made this campaign a success . We are particularly proud that 43 % of our alumni contributed to the Building for the Future campaign .
I ’ m grateful to report that Williamson concluded the 2021 fiscal year having raised $ 21.3 million in total gifts received from 1557 donors , which included nearly $ 3.5 million for our annual Williamson Fund . An extended report on our charitable giving can be found on the following page .
The results of this campaign point to one core truth : the enriched traditions of Williamson have stood the test of time and the college has the support to ensure that , like the Building for the Future campaign , it remains successful for years to come .
