WCPL Staff Spotlight

Meet West Unity Branch Manager , Dena Filip

1 . Tell us a little about yourself . I was born and raised in West Unity with my 7 siblings whom all have the same initials , DLZ . My mom was very creative with our names . My interests are camping , baking , reading , puzzles , coloring and spending time with my 3 grandsons and family . I started at Williams County Public Library part time in 1995 and went full time in 1998 .
2 . What have you most enjoyed about being the West Unity Branch Manager for WCPL ? Being able to implement programs that patrons are in need of , or interested in . Homeschooling is really popular in the area , and I wanted to help those families out . So , I have a monthly homeschooling day with education and fun . We also have sewing classes , painting classes , exercise classes , things for all of the community to enjoy . I like to have the Library involved with the many Community events throughout the yea , as well .
3 . What is a service that WCPL offers that you wish the community were more aware of ? Homebound deliveries to the elderly , and curbside deliveries in the parking lot .
4 . Favorite Book ? Snow Bride by Debbie Macomber , and romance has always been my favorite . Ann B Ross has a series of books called Miss Julia , which I recommend to many of my patrons because it ’ s interesting and also funny . I really enjoy being part of the “ All Booked Up ” book club at West Unity Library , because they are not my normal reads , but usually are very good books .
5 . What is something about the town of West Unity that you enjoy ? It ’ s a small and quiet town that gives people the ability to really know their neighbors . Revitalization of the buildings have really improved the aesthetics of the town .
6 . What event are you most excited to have at the West Unity Branch Library in the upcoming months ? I ’ m really excited for the Library to participate in the Chamber of Commerce 2nd Annual Cookie Walk . It is where you go into the different businesses in town , get your card stamped and receive a cookie . When you are finished , you turn your card in for a chance to win a prize . I participated last year and had so much fun visiting the businesses , that I wanted the Library to be one of the stops this year . Last year it snowed which made it even more fun , with the hint of Christmas in West Unity , which includes many Christmas shops .
