PHS to EMS
Palestine High School students take learning to a higher level! On August 31, the students of Mr. Florence’s Principles of Health Science class got to witness two Flight for Life aircrafts land on the Palestine High School campus.
The first aircraft that landed was Flight for Life 1, an EC130 aircraft, based out of Palestine. The flight crew on the aircraft was Amanda Bailey and Chance Jordan. The second aircraft was Flight for Life 3, a BK145 aircraft, that flew in from Longview, and the Flight Paramedic on that craft was Mark Rogers, who is also a 2003 Palestine High School graduate. Unfortunately, the students did not get to fly around on the aircraft, but they learned a lot of useful information by listening to the flight crew of each aircraft give presentations. They talked to the students about what it takes to be a Flight Paramedic/Nurse, what is involved with their jobs, where they can travel with their job, and they showed the students all the equipment on the aircrafts.
“I used Air-medical to get the kids attention about the flight medical field.” said Mr. Florence.
“It was pretty cool, we got to watch them fly the aircrafts and then they came to our class to answer any questions that we had.” said Camryn Lupo from Mr. Florence’s fourth period class.
The Flight for Life team plans to return later in the year to talk to Palestine students about different careers in Health Care and the flight medical field.
