t a recent new agent training, one of the topics of discussion was how to reach absentee landowners. Interestingly enough, I received a call from an out-of-state landowner about a week after this discussion! We discussed the need to have on farm personnel that shared his vision and goals for the operation, as well as a number of other subjects. Going forward, working with out of state landowners could create a huge impact in our area.
Over the past month, I have served over 25 producers through one-on-one consultations, phone calls, emails or walk-ins. Questions ranged from weed control and pasture fertilization to fence laws; the most common questions have revolved around hay prices. Large round bales of prairie hay are reported at $80 to $100 (source: https://www.ams.usda.gov/mnreports/dc_gr310.txt).
I attended Programming with A Purpose, creating an action plan for the coming program year. This was a wonderful opportunity to network with fellow new agents, and with leaders within KSRE.
September activities include Farm Bill meetings, a program development committee meeting, and gearing up for a Women in Ag series (a program that will be conducted in January and February).
