4-H Youth Development
Leadership
pril is the final month for the “Let’s Play Leadership!” series. This session touches on how the 4-H ribbon system works and sending thank you notes to the school principals. Working together to undo a human knot is the final activity the students get to participate in. Some classes work very well together and complete the mission in good time, while other classes may take a little bit longer to do. All-in-all, the year has again been successful and the teachers are wanting me to verify that I will be back in the fall with the next class.
Earth Day was held on April 24 at the Parsons Rec Center. For the past several years, Christina Beason and I have worked together in the tree bagging session. This year, Will Morris joined us for this hands-on experience working with students. There were over 850 students (plus teachers) and parents that attended. We bagged a lot of trees! The weather was beautiful, and we had great FFA youth helping out this year. (I know several of them who are also involved in 4-H.)
Radio is something I haven’t had the opportunity to explore, but this month I went with Cheri Nelsen to cover a morning session at KGGF when the Ag agents were unavailable. 4-H camp promotion was my topic and what the campers get to participate in as well as how it helps them grow. The Rock Springs website does have a video promotion that our Sunny Hills camp group is featured in as well as several of the agents including myself. This video was released in January 2018.
We celebrated 10 years of Women In Ag conferences! This year was another great success! Over 60 ladies gathered for a day of information from fence laws to raising rats. It was a great day for sharing, fellowshipping and learning new techniques and hobbies. We have had great responses from the attendees and plan to continue serving and educating the local female population in agriculture.
