nna Mae Brown served as an Extension Agent, volunteer, and as a pillar community member. Her passion was child development and sharing sewing! Her legacy continues with the Kids Care Sewing Camp which she started and continued to assist with until her passing this year. The Anna Brown Legacy Fund, administered by the Wildcat Extension Education Foundation, provided fully furnished sewing kits to each participant at the 2019 camp!

Camp is more than sewing and this summer was no exception. Passionate volunteers make this week possible and this year was especially filled with experience. Thirteen youth were fortunate to have almost one-on-one help has they learned the safety and technical use of a sewing machine.

The youth jumped in and began sewing the first day, creating cage comforters for animals. On our final day of camp, the Southeast Kansas Humane Society came to present about their work and needs. Our youth presented their cage comforters to the shelter and Lucky, the puppy that came along.

Medicare Extra Help and Health Insurance Conversations

Area Agency on Aging, Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, and Wildcat Extension District teamed up to provide information about extra help in paying for insurance and answer questions or concerns about insurance. The date at the Pittsburg YMCA followed the immense rain. Presenters were able to answer questions about the suggested tetanus shots after flooding and if Medicare participants would be charged.
