his is the month of camps! I started off with Discovery Days on campus in Manhattan. I took 6 boys from across the district to this event. Techniques of Tailgating is still a very popular event! This year I made a life size Jenga game and Yardzee. The kids had fun with both of them.

I returned in time to go to Greenbush for two nights with our 7-9 year olds. This is a great camp for parents and the younger group because it is only one night. We just run two sessions because there is not enough housing for us to have them all on one night. We have kids returning each year for this because they have so much fun! It has also affected the attendance to Sunny Hills camp. The kids (mostly the parents) find out they can be away from home, make friends, and learn new information on their own so they are willing to try a longer camp session.

Sewing camp followed Greenbush. The kids made quillows and pieced bags. They all completed them. We had great help for the week! Our volunteers came from several different quilt guilds and adults who read in the paper we were having the camp and knew how to sew. The new machines worked excellent and the volunteers who have helped in the past were very pleased with them too. We did not have any issues with the machines and we were able to add 6 more people to the sessions. The kids also make a lap quilt to donate to a charity of their choice.

Sunny Hills camp was next at Rock Springs near Junction City. There were seven from across the district who chose to go as a counselor. This is a great leadership building program for the counselors, and the campers meet youth from other southeast Kansas counties. Some of them even request each other as a room-mate the next year.
