his month, I have had the privilege to work with several livestock producers, assist with preparations for the Labette County Fair, and receive training on the new Farm Bill.
There are livestock producers across the district with numerous forage questions; ranging from quality to quantity and of course “How do you kill this weed?” Each of the questions requires a few more details to answer. In asking more questions and researching answers, I have received ample opportunity to grow my knowledge of fescue, crabgrass and other summer forages.
The 2019 Labette County Fair was a unique learning experience for everyone involved. Kylie Ludwig provided so much guidance for the two new agents in Labette County, I don’t think she can be recognized enough for her efforts! While training two new agents, a new record tracking system was used; all hands were on deck. At the end of the event, we were thankful for patient fair exhibitors and great weather. My role in the fair involved providing coordination and/or assistance with all parts of the livestock exhibitions.
The month of August brings a great opportunity for professional development – Programming with a Purpose, a week-long training for new agents. I am also looking forward to taking part in Wildcat Wednesday at KOAM studios. The Wildcat District Ag Agents are also gearing up for a phenomenal Ag PDC meeting to garner ideas in order to best serve our audiences.
